Art of the Portrait Workshop, 20th September 2025

Join me, Desiree Crossing, for this full day intensive portrait painting workshop.  I'll be teaching you the techniques I use to create my most successful portrait works. Under the practical guidance of a professional portrait artist, you will be taken step by step through the process - from materials, composing your painting, to mixing vibrant skin tones with increased confidence, and how to achieve a likeness. The session will include live demonstrations and, as class tickets are strictly limited, you will receive plenty of one on one time for personalised feedback throughout the day. Previous experience is an advantage but not essential to engage in this rewarding (and forgiving!) style of painting.
 
What we cover in the workshop:
introduction to oil paints and mediums
how to compose a painting for more striking effect
basic structure of human facial anatomy
foundations of colour theory and mixing dynamic skin tones  
how to build layers to create depth 
all materials included
afternoon tea included
